What is Upper Cervical Health Care?

Upper cervical health care is important for both preventative and crisis health care, and is suitable for adults and children. More than 100 different health problems have been known to respond to this approach, depending on the circumstances of the individual.

Upper cervical adjustment is an effective, scientifically proven procedure in the chiropractic profession. Its purpose is to restore the the body's natural ability to heal itself and maintain optimal health. This procedure corrects head/neck misalignment and removes interference at the point where the head and neck join. This reactivates brain to body communication so the body's natural self-healing process can begin. The adjustment involves only the C1 and C2 vertebrae (also known as the Atlas and Axis) in the upper neck region.

Brain health and healing messages leave the brain by way of the brain stem, pass through the neck, down the spinal cord and out over the entire nervous system to all parts of the body. These messages control, monitor and maintain everything that goes on in the body. They also direct healing.

How Do Upper Cervical Misalignments Occur?

A fall, automobile accident, sports injury, bump to the head, poor posture or sleeping habits, ergonomically incorrect desk configuration, and even a difficult birth can cause the muscles of the neck to hold the head and neck in a "tilt" position. The tilt position induces interference at the point where the head and neck join. This interference can prevent the brain from sending its healing message to one or more parts of the body. In turn, the affected parts of the body will have difficulty communicating efficiently with the brain and health problems can develop.
